Robert Hansen was a big game hunter who got tired of hunting until he came upon the novel idea of kidnapping, releasing and then hunting strippers in the Alaska bush.
From 1971 to 1983, Hansen killed around 26 women. Authorities only started wondering what was going on after hunters came across the nude body of one of his victims half buried in a sand bar on the Knik River in 1982.
The Hansen murders are unique to the United States for two reasons: It was the only documented case of female victims flown into the wilderness, released and hunted down. And it was the first time a psychological profile was used as the basis for a search warrant, in this case of Hanson’s residence.
Collage of news articles made by John Linley Frazier
Along with big Ed Kemper and Herbert Mullin, Frazier was the third cog in the legendary Triumvirate of Evil of Santa Cruz in the early seventies. As a young man Johnny Boy dropped out of society because he didn’t want to participate in the killing of the planet.
On October 19, 1970, this acid-dropping environmentalist set out to settle a score with an eye doctor who hated hippies. After entering the home of the doctor, he found the wife and shot her with her own gun. He then proceeded to bound and kill everyone as they arrived. By the time he was done, he had killed the doctor, his wife, his secretary and his two children. Frazier wrote a rambling letter on the doctors typewriter about how World War III had started and that anyone who misuses the environment would be executed. He then tossed the bodies into the swimming pool and torched the place.
His hippie friends thought he had gone a bit to far and turned him in to the police. During his trial Johnny showed up with half of his head, half of his beard and one eyebrow shaved. He got the death sentence before his hair could grow back in.

In some cases it is not that the psychopath necessarily wants to hurt somebody, but that he simply does not care whether he does so or not. Eventually the sexual act becomes interchangeable with murder. Henry Lee Lucas explained, “I get sex any way I can get it. If I have to force somebody to do it, I do. If I don’t, I don’t. I rape them. I’ve killed animals to have sex with them - always killed before I had sex. I’ve had sex with them while they’re still alive only sometimes. Then killing became the same thing as having sex”. Officially, Lucas was convicted of killing “only” eleven people, mostly hitchhikers in Texas along Highway I-35. However, he claimed to have committed 360 murders across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, beginning from 1952, when he was fifteen years old, until his arrest in 1982. Police discount some of his confessions and believe that most likely he killed in the vicinity of “only” a hundred people, tops. At one point on his history, Lucas was joined in his killing by Ottis Elwood Toole, a cannibalistic male prostitute. There was no recognizable sense or pattern to their killing. The victims were men, women, and children. They were young and they were old; they were prostitutes, businessmen, homemakers, tramps, and students. They were strangled, shot, stabbed, and battered to death. Some were raped; others were not. Some were mutilated and cannibalized while others were carefully buried. Some victims have never been identified to this day.
Alexander Bychkov is a russian serial killer and cannibal convicted for the murder of 9 homeless men. Between 2009 and 2011, he’d hunt down homeless people and alcoholic because he disapproved of their lifestyle. After killing them with a hammer, he would dismember their bodies to hinder identification and investigation. In two occasions he confessed he ate the hearts of his victims.
In his diary, Bychkov confessed he turned to murder after his girlfriend left him for being “a wimp”; “she said I was a wimp, not a wolf … I will show her … Maybe she will stop complaining and understand that I am a lone wolf.”. He was initially arrested for shoplifting, but he confessed to the police he had buried bodies in his backyard in Belinsky, a town south of Moscow.
A native of Amarillo, Texas, born in James Pinkerton Kelly had dropped out of school by age 17, to work as an apprentice butcher. On October 26, 1979, a prowler invaded the home of 30-year-old Sarah Lawrence, slashing her throat and stabbing her 30-odd times with a butcher knife, afterward raping her corpse and inflicting grisly post-mortem mutilations. Detectives followed a trail of footprints to Pinkerton’s house, several blocks away, but he was released for lack of evidence after brief interrogation. Six months later, on April 9, 1980, 25-year-old Sherry Welch, a former beauty queen, was murdered in the back room of an Amarillo furniture store that she managed. Police had no leads in the case, but they were still working on the Lawrence homicide, studying bloody palmprints found on the victim’s furniture. The prints were matched in late summer, and Pinkerton was arrested on September 26, charged with one count of first-degree murder. Convicted of the Lawrence murder eight months later, Pinkerton was sentenced to death on May 30, 1981. Indictments were returned in the Welch case on July 22 of that year, and Pinkerton celebrated the anniversary of his first murder trial with another conviction, drawing his second death sentence on May 13, 1982. Appeals won the killer three stays of execution, once coming within a half-hour of death before the Supreme Court intervened to save his life. A federal appeals court rejected Pinkerton’s bid for a fourth stay, on May 14, 1986, and he was executed by lethal injection the following day.
“Be strong for me,” Pinkerton told his father, Gene Pinkerton, as witnesses entered the execution chamber. “I want you to know I’m at peace with myself and with my God,” Pinkerton said. He recited a prayer to Allah, the supreme being of Islam. “I bear witness that there is no God but Allah. With your praise I ask for forgiveness and I return unto you,” Pinkerton said. “I love you, Dad.”
Fritz Haarman’s Preserved Head
Haarmann’s victims largely consisted of young male commuters, runaways and, occasionally, male prostitutes whom he would typically encounter around Hanover’s central railway station. The victims would be lured back to his apartment and then killed by being bitten through their throats, sometimes as they were sodomized. All of Haarmann’s victims were dismembered before they were discarded, usually in the Leine River. The possessions of several victims were either sold on the black market or retained by either Haarmann or his younger lover, Hans Grans. Rumor also had it that Haarmann would peddle meat from the bodies of his victims as canned black market pork. Although no physical evidence was ever produced to confirm this, Haarmann was known to be an active trader in contraband meat.
